To Increase economic, employment and entertainment opportunities in the downtown. To financially assist qualified property owners and investors to construct self-contained dwelling units in the BIAs

Affordable Housing Incentive

To stimulate below market, affordable and accessible housing options in the City of Miramichi. To encourage housing development that makes efficient use of established City infrastructure. To help build vibrant, sustainable and inclusive neighbourhoods.

Land Acquisition

The City of Miramichi aims to optimize underutilized city-owned land assets for housing opportunities and establish guidelines for the strategic acquisition of new lands (e.g., to unlock housing opportunities in the Downtowns). By repositioning and banking these assets, the City seeks to maximize their potential for housing development, create opportunities for affordable housing, and ensure a strong urban core resident base that supports a strong business and cultural downtown, in alignment with the City’s Downtowns Master Plan.

The City has adopted a program that allows staff to dispose of surplus property for housing development purposes. The Following map indicates the properties that have currently been declared surplus by Council:
